Jackie L. West, 65, of Franklin, passed away Friday, January 27, 2012.
Born in Macon Co., he was the son of the late Sarah West Anderson. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Ralph Anderson; grandchildren, Micah and McKenna and brother, Roger West. Jackie was a US Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He was an avid golfer and sportsman and volunteered countless hours coaching and mentoring in many sports. Jackie was an Oasis Shriner; member of Junaluskee Lodge 145 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 994. He was an active member of Cowee Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and member of Cowee Mens Brotherhood. He had a special heart for missions and helping those in need.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Bowers West; two children, Jerry West and wife Margaret of Highlands and Jamie McHan and husband Duane of Franklin; grandson, Tucker McHan; beloved mother-in-law, Edna Bowers; half-brothers and sisters, Nancy, David, Kathy, Mark, Jennifer and Rexanna and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 30, at Cowee Baptist Church. Rev. David Powell and Rev. Lloyd Fish will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 994.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. Monday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Tony Ashe, Kevin Rogers, Johnny Teem, CD Jenkins, David Morgan, Terry Cabe, Bob Bolick and Ellard Bolick.
