August "Howard" Meyer, 72, of Franklin passed away Friday, October 8, 2010.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Augusta "Werth" Meyer and Anna Meyer. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rose Meyer who died in 1966. Howard was a U.S. Army veteran, retired truck driver and also retired from WNC University as Supervisor of food service. He was a member of Jarrett Memorial in Dillsboro, member of Dix Avenue Baptist Church in Lincoln Park, Michigan and a member of the Antique Tractor Club. Howard will be remembered as a loving husband and loving and devoted father who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Nancy Lee Jones Meyer; son, Randall Meyer of Franklin; several half brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Eddie Stillwell, Rev. Andy Cloer and Dr. Matthew Mahar will officiate. Burial will be in the Barker's Creek Cemetery, Sylva, NC. Military rites will be conducted by the Fort Bragg Funeral Detail.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, October 11, at Macon Funeral Home.
VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 will serve as Pallbearers. Members of the Antique Tractor Club will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Memorial donations can be made to the Vonrechinghausen disease.
