Henry Sonagere, 98, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
Born in Amsterdam, OH, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Emilia Sonagere.
Henry was a US Army WWII veteran. On May 5, 2018, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal by the Consul General of France Clement LeClerc. It was awarded to him on the USS Kearsarge docked in Fort Lauderdale. He adds this honor to his Silver Star from General William Donovan and the Air Medal with Oak Clusters for volunteering for hazardous air drops described a "dangerous and difficult tasks." His experiences qualify him as one of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation."
He was a member of the Mariner Sands Country Club, Stuart, FL and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Michigan. Henry was a very active golfer with a handicap as low as 11. He was a retired general contractor.
He is survived by his wife of 72 ½ years, Norma Dolores Sonagere; daughters, Carol Kitzner (Jim) of Franklin and Joan Rector (Michael) of Harsens Island, MI; granddaughters, Amy Rector of Plymouth, MI and Sara McGeorge of St. Clair Shores, MI.
