Harley Carpenter, Jr., 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016. He was born on February 6, 1924, in Franklin, NC to the late William Harley and Louise Jennie Norton Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Dalton Carpenter and a son, Ronald Dalton Carpenter. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed ginseng hunting, turkey and deer hunting, fishing and enjoyed his family. Harley was a farmer, logger, trucker and retired from Contel Telephone Service after 36 years of service. He served 3 years during World War II in the Army on the Philippine Islands. He was a member of Scotts Creek Church in Sylva, NC.
He is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Carpenter Greer of Franklin; two granddaughters, Julie Cabe Hallford (Rink) of Kennesaw, GA and Janet Leigh Greer of Franklin, NC, four greatgrandchildren, Jacob Wilson, Channing Hallford, Josie Hallford and Jared Greer. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Ernie, Elbert, Ervin and Edward Carpenter and two sisters, Dovie Pitts and Flora Burrell.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home, receiving friends one hour before the service. Rev. David Powell will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
Pallbearers will be Bill Carpenter, Jeff Carpenter, David Pitts, James Burrell, John Wert, Tommy Carpenter, Jacob Wilson and Channing Hallford.
