Grady Allen, 82, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Tom Allen and Eva McMahan Allen. Grady was also preceded in death by 3 brothers; Furman Allen, Lloyd Allen, and Ralph Allen; and a sister, Ollie Mae Hurst. He was a lifelong member of Liberty Baptist Church and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grady was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels and enjoyed old time gospel music.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita Poindexter Allen, of Franklin; daughter, Joan Shepherd, of Sylva; son, Steve Allen (Denise), of Franklin; daughter, Diane Keener (Mark Whitman), of Franklin; brother, John Allen (Betty), of Franklin; sister, Sue McConnell, of Franklin; sister, Ruby Poindexter, of Franklin; sister, Linda Passmore, of Franklin; 7 grandchildren, Chris Allen (Nichole), Travis Shepherd (Sarah), Heather Shepherd, Blaine Keener (Amber), Shane Keener, Tiffany Padgett (Brandon), and Kaleena Messer (Tim); 10 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Axton, Titus, Jaden, Landon, Shaun, Braylon, Mason, Ellie, and Clayton; former son-in-law, Tim Keener; sisters-in-law, Verlie Allen and Patsy Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Davis Hooper, Rev. Wesley Hooper, Rev. Charles Stevens, and Rev. Rick Potts will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Macon Funeral Home.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
