Gloria June Durfey, 82, of Otto, NC, passed away Feb 2, 2015
Born in Miami, FL, she was preceded in death by parents, Sarvino Silvio Bertoni & Hazel Grace Zimmerman Bertoni; husband, Benjamin Durfey and sister, Betty Stewart. She attended Dryman Chapel United Methodist Church of Franklin, NC and St. Helena of Clayton, GA. Gloria was very active in her community and was nominated Woman of the Year in Otto for seven years. An avid reader, she wrote articles for Florida Sportsman magazine. She was a native FL historian, shell collector, gem collector and rock enthusiast, always willing to share her knowledge with great enthusiasm. Gloria was member of the Miami Edison High School Over-the-Hill-Gang class of 1950. She was a woman of many accomplishments… to name a few… she owned a popular real estate company in NC, her shell collection was shown at the Miami Museum of Science and she could play cards and/or fish all night!!!
She is survived by son, Brian Ellsworth Durfey (Sherri) of Lakewood, CO; daughters, Deborah Lynn Craig (William, City of Miami Police Officer, deceased) of Phoenix, AZ and Loretta Durfey of Miami, FL; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and special friend, Chester Willette.
Macon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, services will be held at a later date.
