George William McClure, 94, of Otto, NC, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 6, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Macon County NC. He was the son of the late Charles H. McClure and Ethel Gray McClure. He graduated from Clemson College in 1940 with a BS degree in Agronomy. He entered the Army in 1942 with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He fought in the Pacific Theater of World War II for 30 months and was awarded a Bronze Star. He retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He worked as an executive for H.G. Hasting Co. He retired at age 62 and managed his own landscaping company for 16 years in Atlanta, GA. He was an elder at Morrison Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife Martha G. McClure and his sons Charles G. McClure and his wife Catharine of Augusta, GA, and George W. McClure Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Tuscaloosa, AL. He is also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and another due in February.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Rush Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund of Morrison Presbyterian Church, 1148 Bates Branch Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
