Gene Stamey, 87, of Franklin passed away Monday, February 11, 2019.
Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Nelson Virgil Stamey and Annie Marie Cook Stamey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jay Lloyd Stamey, Dennis Stamey and John Stamey. Gene was a charter member, deacon, treasurer and secretary of Higdonville Baptist Church and was the treasurer of Macon Baptist Association for 17 years. He retired from Burlington Industries/Wrangler, worked at Macon Funeral Home for many years and loved to travel.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Morrison Stamey; son, Morris Stamey of Franklin; daughters, Teresa Tallent of Franklin, and Melissa Moss of Hiawassee, GA; brother Ted Stamey of Franklin; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one nephew and many nieces.
Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Thursday, February 14, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Jason Smith, Rev. Ronnie Branson, and Rev. Lester Evans will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, February 15, at Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Gene Hawkins will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Thursday, February 14, at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brian Tallent, Lawson Raby, Major Moss, Gionny Demont, Jim Breedlove, and Mark Foster. Honorary Pallbearers will be Denton Higdon, Steve Waldroop, James L. Teem, and Andrew Raby.
