Obituary

Fred Lane passed away on June 28, 2011 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville after a short illness.

He was the owner of Fred's Auto Upholstery in Franklin and was a very talented and a well-respected professional. He especially loved to restore classic cars to their original interior and some of his customers won awards for those interiors in car shows. One of the classic cars that had a complete interior done by Fred was even featured in a National show car enthusiast's magazine. It wasn't unusual for customers to bring their cars from surrounding states to have their interiors completed. Fred was a reserve deputy for Macon County Sheriff's Department from 1983-1997.

Fred was born in Sommerville, NJ on July 16, 1947 and moved to Dunedin, FL in 1959. After many successful years in his Auto Upholstery business in Seminole, FL, he and his family moved to Franklin, NC where he started his current business in 1981.

He was the son of Lewis L. and Doris M. Lane of Dunedin, FL who predeceased him in death. He is survived by a sister, Brenda Lane Summers and husband, Vince Summers of FL, wife of 8 years, Teressa Moses Lane of Franklin, his first wife of 30 years, Linda Lane of Franklin and a daughter, Dawn Lane Trammel and husband, Michael Trammel of Franklin, a son, Kenneth A.
