Florence Violet Riordan Childs, formerly of Pensacola, Fl and London, England, passed away in Franklin, NC on March 12, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Charles Childs, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her 3 children: Michael J Childs and wife Neta of Las Vegas, NV; Daniel R Childs and wife Diana of Jay, OK; and Ella Childs Churchill, husband Peter of Franklin, NC. Also surviving is a step son, Walter Childs and wife Sally of The Villages, Fla. Violet had 8 grandchildren: Vincent, David, Douglas and Walter Childs, Vickie Childs Fredericks, John Churchill and Lydia Churchill Kerr. She is survived by 10 great grandchildren.
A native of London, England, Violet immigrated to the USA and Florida with her husband and 2 sons in 1952. She was an Executive Housekeeper at Sacred heart Hospital and founder of the local chapter of the NEHA, National Executive Housekeepers Association, teaching accrediting courses at Pensacola Junior College.
Mrs. Childs and her husband established a support group for British transplants associated with the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Church and Cathedral, active with the Sodality Society.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to an activities program for the SPARK unit at Macon Valley Nursing Home, 3195 Old Murphy Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
