Everette Willard Miller, 74, of Scaly Mountain, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Jesse L. Miller and Minnie Ethel Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Edwin Miller and sister, Lexie Miller. Everette retired as a Staff Sergeant from the US Army after 24 years and served during Operation Desert Storm. He retired from Fruit of the Loom after 47 years as a Lead Waste Water Operator; he volunteered with the Macon County Election Board; was a former member of Scaly Mtn Fire Department board of directors; was a life-member of VFW and American Legion and member of Scaly Mtn church of God for over 50 years where he served as church clerk for over 30 years. Everette enjoyed farming and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma McConnell; four children, Martha Jane York and husband Greg of Long Creek, SC, Karen Lynn Kilby and husband Gary of Tiger, GA, Everette Ray Miller and wife Angela of Scaly Mtn, NC and Brian Willard Miller of Scaly Mtn, NC; a brother and two sisters, Richard Miller, Ruby Vinson and Elizabeth McConnell all of Scaly Mtn, NC; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27th, at Scaly Mtn. Church of God. Rev. Al Sizemore and Rev. Conner Lambert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108..
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26th, at Macon Funeral Home and from 1-2:00 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service at the church.
