Evelyn "Bernice" Wood, 74, of Otto, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Prince Curtis and Cora McCall Curtis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lennie Curtis. Bernice loved cross word puzzles, crocheting, music and flowers. She attended Asbury United Methodist Church and was a greeter at Walmart.

She is survived by her companion, James Cogdill; daughter, Linda Williams and husband Eddie of Otto, NC; son, Ricky Wood of Otto, NC; two sisters, Margie Curtis of Otto and Mary Phillips and husband Ellis of Bryson City; two brothers, George Curtis and wife Tootsie of Otto and Keith Curtis and friend Geri of Otto; three grandchildren, Evelyn Rhinehart of CO, Amanda Williams and Brandon Williams both of Otto; one great granddaughter, Destiny Collins of Otto; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Randal Phillips and Rev. Michael Binger will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 17, at Macon Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joey Curtis, Dale Curtis, Chris Bradley, Mike Bradley, Rickey Collins and Tony Norris.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
