Obituary

Dorothy "Mama Dot" Dockery Kinsland of Franklin, NC, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011.

Born March 23, 1924 in Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus E. and Lillie Swan Dockery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry Kinsland who died January 14, 2011; brothers, Raymond, Russell, J.C. and Romulus Dockery. Dorothy was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a preschool Sunday school teacher. Mama Dot loved to cook for and entertain her family and friends. She was known for her ability to make delicious cakes. During her teen years she was active in 4-H and showing beef cattle. In 1942 she was 1st place winner in Buncombe County for filling 700 quarts of food from her victory garden.

She is survived by one sister, Norma Dean Metcalf of Weaverville, NC; two daughters, Carolyn Shook and husband Jim of Franklin and Sandra Johnson of Lawrenceville, GA; sister-in-law, Mary Dockery of Weaverville, NC; two foster children, Lois Mabe and husband Ray and Jerry Walkingstick; four granddaughters, Teresa Wilson and husband Kelly, Michelle Johnson, April Johnson and fiancée, Adam Reece and Alicia Zimmerman and husband Mark; two step grandsons, Jeff Shook and John Shook and wife Sonya; four great-granddaughters, Reagan and Mallory Wilson, Cheyenne and Gwen Zimmerman; three step great-grandsons, Juston, Chandler and Roman Shook and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations can be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, C/O Nancy Seagle, 2432 Jack Cabe Rd. Franklin, NC 28734 or Angel Home Health and Hospice, 170 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Cecil Frady, Rev. Eddie Trull and Rev. Bud Haire will officiate. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Brad Bishop, Bunny McClure, Kenneth Cole, Jobie Roberts, Jeff Shook and John Shook.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
