Dorothy Mae Houston Cox, 94, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late James Norman Houston and Ella Arvey Houston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William A. Cox; grandson, Thomas Elder Bivens; son-in-law, Ken "Bo" Bivens; sister, Marie Darragh and brother, James Taylor Houston.
During the war, she worked at Boeing and was a member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. She also worked at the FBI, Washington, DC and worked with her husband in his accounting business. Dorothy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by four daughters, Marie Cox Persinger (Howard H. "Butch" Persinger, Jr.) of Braselton, GA, Adeline "Betty" Cox Bivens of Greensboro, NC, Loraine "Lori" Cox Finley (Art) of Braselton, GA and Dorothy Lee Cox Thompson (Wayne) of Dacula, GA; brother, James N. Houston, Jr. of Franklin; sister-in-law, Delia Houston of Franklin, NC; five grandchildren, Wendy Bivens Fowler (Alan), Howard H. "Holt" Persinger, III (Jennie), Sean M. Persinger (Jacey), Wayne E. "Rett" Thompson, Jr. (Katina) and John Gavin Thompson; five great grandchildren, Adeline Fowler, Allison Fowler, Avery F. Persinger, Owen F. Persinger and Emerson J. Persinger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at Macon Funeral Home, Friday January 25, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Eric Burch and Ken Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM
