Obituary

Dorothy Louise Broughton passed away on September 2, 2018 at the tender age of 91.

Dorothy was born in Petersburg, MI where she lived on the family farm with her parents, sister, and brother. Her favorite work was anything her Daddy was doing in the barn or fields. Dorothy worked in the deli at Winn Dixie in Franklin for many years and made many dolls for people who worked and shopped there.

Dorothy enjoyed crossword and other word puzzles and listening to big bands, crooners like Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, and Andrea Bocelli, but her favorite pastime was crocheting (not knitting, as she would remind you). She made countless afghans, dolls, hats, gloves, scarves, baby blankets, booties and sweaters, shawls, doilies, and tablecloths.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, George, two sons, Robert "Bob" and George, and her granddaughter, Amy Cook.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Genevieve Haft of Ann Arbor, MI, daughters, Nancy Hoagland and husband Michael of Franklin, Chery Broughton and husband Mickey Smith of Belton, TX, and Merry Broughton of Franklin, as well as her grandchildren, Michael Hoagland, Holly Averett and husband Mike, all of Franklin, and Coleen Weeks and husband Jason Wilson of Cullowhee, NC. She leaves behind great-grandchildren Brooklyn Hoagland, Korah Bumgarner, Ethan Averett, Trevor Averett, Kelsey Averett, all of Franklin, Tyreese Weeks, and Paisley Weeks, of Cullowhee, along with several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

She leaves behind many friends and neighbors, including Rick and Nell Jenkins, Johnny Stanfield, Tami and Brianna Norris, and Betty Scott.

No services are planned. Memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to Grandview Manor as a way to pay forward the efforts of all those working with dementia and Alzheimer's patients.

Macon Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
