Obituary

Donald Harry Scheetz, born on October 28, 1936, passed from this life on December 20, 2020. There are many things he will be remembered for and at the top of the list is his love for his family. He was an excellent provider and a fantastic husband, father, and grandfather. A retired New York City Firefighter, Mr. Scheetz was always looking for a way to help others regardless of their situation. He was low key and behind the scenes, never seeking credit for his labors. He enjoyed working with his hands and had the reputation of being a proficient machinist and a master wood worker. He liked having the companionship of dogs, especially St. Bernards. Mr. Scheetz appreciated poetry. His favorite poem being "Invictus" by William Henley with its memorable lines: "It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul." Mr. Scheetz is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Alice Dorothy Scheetz; two sons, Carl Scheetz (Debora) of Goshen, New York, and Harold Scheetz (Harriett) of New Windsor, New York; along with three grandchildren, Jeremy, Audrey, and Melanie. He is predeceased by his parents, August and Jessie Vandeusen Scheetz. Mr. Scheetz requested there be no services for him following his passing. Moffitt Family Funeral Care is honored to serve the Scheetz family. Online condolences may be made at www.moffittfamilyfuneralcare.com
