Obituary

Dennis "Daryl" Thomasson, 55, of Franklin, NC, passed away Sunday morning at 4:43am, April 13, 2008 at Angel Mercy Hospital in Franklin. Daryl was born November 9, 1952, in Winston Salem, NC.

Daryl spent his childhood growing up in Danville, VA. He was an excellent baseball player as a boy, playing short stop. He played with pride as he knew his Father, Homer T of WDVA was broadcasting his games over the radio from Market Garden Field.

As a young man, he worked with his Father and Brothers in the operation of the family business, T-Bird Country Enterprises. Daryl had the opportunity to meet many famous faces and friends of his Father's. From Conway Twitty, Jerry Lee Lewis, to Dolly Parton, and many more.

As an adult, Daryl worked as a custom home cabinet maker in the Los Angeles, CA area for about 20 years before retiring to the NC Highlands.

Dennis "Daryl" Thomasson was preceded in death by his Father, Homer Scott Thomasson, formerly of Danville, VA. His Mother, Dawn Sams Wright, formerly of Mebane, NC. His Paternal Grandparents, Paul McCauley Thomasson, formerly of Ossipee, NC, and Alice Watson Thomasson Campbell, formerly of Ossipee, NC. His Maternal Grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sams, formerly of Reidsville, NC. And his Maternal Step Grandparents, Ted and Alice Wright, formerly of Danville, VA.

Daryl is survived by his Step Mother, Nadine Wright Thomasson, of Calabash, NC, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. Kenneth "Dale" Thomasson, and wife Linda, of Danville, VA. Pamela Scott Thomasson, of Calabash, NC. Miles "Mac" McCauley Thomasson, and wife Brenda, of Summerfield, NC. Rodney Kevin Thomasson, of Sunset Beach, NC. And Kathy Wright Holt, of Graham, NC.

Before his passing, he witnessed his Baptist faith to one of his nurses, Lisia, at Angel Mercy Hospital, and shared stories about his family.

Daryl also left behind many special friends in the Franklin area of the NC Highlands/Great Smokey Mountains. Especially his longtime childhood friend, William "Bill" Alan Hammack, formerly of Danville, VA, now living in Franklin.

A special thank you from the family, to David Wyatt of Franklin, NC, who cared for Daryl during his illness.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008, at 11:00am, at Schoolfield Cemetery in Danville, VA. He will be interred with his Father, Homer.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 229 Mount Olivet Lane, Danville, VA 24540.

The family also wishes to express heartfelt gratitude towards the caring staff at Angel Medical Hospital in Franklin, NC, and the staff of Macon Funeral Home.
