David Lee Smith, 51, of Highlands, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

Born in Macon County he was the son of the Frances Angel Smith and the late Frank Smith. David was a US Army SSG Veteran and served with the 101st Airborne and the 210th National Guard Unit in Franklin. He loved to fish and hunt. David was a member of Shortoff Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Willie Angel of Franklin; a daughter, Stephanie Smith of Franklin; a son; Jason Smith of Sneads Ferry, NC; a brother, Roger Smith of Glennville, GA and many more extended family.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. David Powell and Rev. Andy Cloer will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 7339 and the American Legion Post 108.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 27, at Macon Funeral Home.
