S.C. "Cy" Sears, 86, of Comer, GA, formerly of Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009.
Born in Tupper Lake, NY, he was the son of the late William C. Sears and Gladys Ina Narrow Sears. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Sears who died in 1972 and a sister, Dorothy Moore. Cy was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran having served in the South Pacific with the USMC Aviation Squadron. He spent his youth and working life in St. Petersburg, FL and retired from St. Petersburg Times in 1973. He began a second career with Sears Realty; built numerous homes in the Franklin area and was a member of Franklin Board of Realtors. Upon retirement from real estate in the mid 1990's he resided in Lake Wales, FL. He was a Eucharistic Minister and active member of St. Francis Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus; was an avid golfer and club champion several times. Cy and Valerie traveled Europe upon their 50th Anniversary and spent two summers visiting the National Park in the Western USA.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Valerie Cronkhite Sears; three children, William "Bill" J. Sears and wife Paulette of Tavernier, FL, Guy Richard Sears and wife Mary of Comer, GA and Steve Sears and wife Mary of Seneca, SC; one sister, Mildred Holland; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Father Tien Duong will officiate. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the members of the Marine Corps League.
