Gone from this earth but never from our hearts, Curtis Benson, 65, of Sylva, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2013.

Born in Kenly, NC, he was the son of the late Ollie Benson and Marjorie Watson Benson. A veteran of the Navy, Curtis proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an extraordinary gardener. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife and soul-mate, Nancy Benson; four children, Wayne Benson of Clayton, NC, Kathy Benson of Newport, NC, David Nutter of Charleston, SC and Brian Nutter of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Dianne Radford, Linda Benson and Peggy Goff; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 18th, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Bruce Merriman and Rev. Jason Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
