Clarence R. Vanhook, 89, of Franklin, entered into rest Tuesday, March 8, 2005.
A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late C. B. "Bun" and Addie Angel Vanhook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirly Vanhook and Kathy Shirley Hayes; one sister, Mary Louise Dowdle; and three brothers, Lewis, Zeb, and Fred Vanhook. He was a US Army Air Corp WWII veteran serving in North Africa, Italy, and France. After coming home from the service, he was a farmer and carpenter; worked for Earl English as a mechanic and retired after twenty years from the NC Department of Transportation Maintenance as a Motor Grader Operator. He was a member of Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucy Bateman Vanhook; three sons Randy, Jerry, and Allan Vanhook all of Franklin; two daughters, Margaret "Susie" Billingsley of Scaly Mountain, and Robin Fisher of Brewton, AL; one brother, Ray Vanhook of Franklin; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Al Beck will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarks Chapel Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Macon Funeral Home.
Grandsons will service as Pallbearers.
