Christine Powell Horne went Home to be with the Lord June 18,2008 atChatuge Regional Nursing Home, Hiawassee, GA. She was a former resident of St. Petersburg, FL and Franklin, NC. Born in Williston, FL on September 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Mattie Jones Powell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, George C. Horne; one son, George Gary Horne; a daughter, Ethel Carolyn Horne; her sister, Gerry Powell Stapleton and her husband, Homer Stapleton and a brother, William H. Powell. Christine loved and served the Lord all her life. She often spoke of her service as a church secretary and youth worker at 5th Ave. Baptist Church in St. Petersburg. She and George also served as missionaries in Yemen and Korea which gave them the opportunity to visit many countries around the world. They were members of First Baptist Church in Franklin, NC.
Christine is survived by a granddaughter, Rebecca Cyrus of Jacksonville, FL; two great-grandsons, Joshua Bailey of Jacksonville, FL and Gage Cyrus of Inverness, FL; a nephew, Robert William Powell of Largo, FL; five nieces, Laverne Willoughby of Sun City Center, FL, Karen Hrivnak and her husband Andy of Gibsonton, FL, Annette King and her husband Larry of Madison, FL, Cynthia Hawkins and her husband Bob of Cummings, GA, Mary Florence Hunter and her husband Pat of Windmere, FL, and two sisters-in law Marguerite Mixon and her husband Charles of Lake City, FL and Bobbie Powell of Brookesville, FL.She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews; a former daughter-in-law, Bobbi Teague of Abingdon, VA; two very special caregivers, Wanda Lou Pritchett and Jo DeHart of Franklin, NC and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, June 21, 2008 followed by a service of celebration at the Macon Funeral Home Chapel, Franklin, NC with the Reverend Harold Ball and Dr. Charles Sands officiating. Committal graveside services will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin, NC. Pallbearers are Bo Kinsland, Charles Shuler, Jim Ledford, Josh Bailey, Jan Unger and Lester Evans.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, Franklin, NC.
