Obituary

Rev. Charles "Charlie Brown" Parrish, 85, of Franklin, passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.

A native of Cary, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Charles K. Parrish and Louise Hicks Parrish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Ruth Stuart Parrish who died in May 2006. He was also preceded in death by five brothers; William K., Roy M., H. Jerry, David and Johnny Parrish. He was a graduate of Davidson College, Union Theological Seminary, and attended Duke Graduate School. He was a retired Presbyterian (PCUSA) Minister. He was an active part of the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands including the Monday morning Prayer Group lovingly known as "Charlie's Boys" and a member of The Presbytery of Western North Carolina. Rev. Parrish started his ministries in West Virginia, then continued in NC, SC, GA, and VA. These ministries not only included pastoring and preaching from the pulpit, but he was involved in the administration at St. Andrews Presbyterian College and counseling with the Presbyterian Children's Home in Lynchburg, VA. Early in his ministry he was an active Boy Scout leader and had numerous Eagle Scout recipients.

Surviving are three children, Mary Beth Houston and husband, Steve of Franklin, NC; Margaret Calloway and husband, Doyle of Highlands, NC; and Stuart Parrish and wife, Diane of Acworth, GA.; eleven loving grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands. Rev. Hunter Coleman will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Highlands.
