Charles Lambuth Moore, 86, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
Born on February 5, 1925 in Statesboro, GA, he was the son of Reverend Leland Moore and Angeline Haywood Moore. The son of a Methodist preacher, Charles attended many schools in Southeast Georgia. He served as Chief Petty Officer in the Navy from 1942-1946 and trained Navy gunners in anti-submarine warfare in PBY Catalina Aircraft during WWII. He graduated from Young Harris College and the University of South Carolina with a degree in Business. He had a successful career in accounting in Atlanta and Jacksonville. Upon retirement, he moved to the mountains of North Carolina. He married Betty Houghton on January of 2001. He enjoyed gardening, painting, reading, genealogy and playing the drums. His favorite music was Big Band Jazz.
In addition to his wife, Betty Moore of Franklin; he is survived by a son, Charles Leland "Buck" Moore of Loganville, GA; four daughters, Nancy Rebecca "Becky" Moore of Duluth, GA, Melissa Moore Edwards of Wilmington, NC, Angeline "Angie" Moore Insko of Apex, NC and Catherine "Cathy" Moore Henderson of St. Simons Island; a step-son, Robert Houghton of Sylva, NC; a step-daughter, Stephanie Cavalier Houghton of Walnut Creek, CA; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23 at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sam Pope will officiate.
