Beulah Loftis Jones, 91, of Whittier, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008.
Mrs. Jones was born on October 4, 1916 in Ravensford, north of Cherokee, which later became a part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Her parents, Roscoe and Hattie Woody Loftis, and her five brothers and three sisters then moved from the Ravensford-Smokemont area to Olivet in Jackson County, and later to Conleys Creek, Swain County. Mrs. Jones retired from the Swain County Schools cafeteria system. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Woods of Etowah who died in February 2008; one sister and four brothers.
She is survived by three sons, James Woods and wife Jewell of Hemingway, SC, Carroll Woods of East Flat Rock, NC, Michael Bryson and wife Linda of Cherokee, NC; one daughter, Mary Opal Browning of Franklin; daugher-in-law Ann Woods of Etowah; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Tippett and Mrs. Naomi Parris of the Alarka community, and one brother, the Rev. Ray Loftis of Clover, SC.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Whittier Church of God, Church Street. Rev. Ned Pressley and Rev. Ray Loftis, brother of Mrs. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Swain Memorial Park Cemetery, Bryson City, NC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Grandsons, Jamie Woods, Charles Bryson, David Woods, Shaun Woods, Adam Woods & Nicholas Case will serve as Pallbearers.
