Betty S. Clay, 94, of Franklin, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016.
Born in Gastonia, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lawson Shook and Ollie Mincey Shook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Clay who died in 1983; two brothers, Sam and Joe and two sisters, Lucille and Kathleen. Betty was the oldest charter member of Higdonville Baptist Church; former president of Higdonville Home Extension Club; longtime volunteer at Cullasaja Elementary School and one of the founders of the Senior Games. She was known by all the kids in the community as, Mamaw Betty. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a son, Donnie Clay of Franklin; daughter, Diana Bailey and husband Mel of Clemmons, NC; sister, Marietta Keener of Franklin; four grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 6, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Ronnie Owens will officiate. Burial will be in the Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Monday, prior to the service at Macon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jason Clay, Clay Reitmeier, Trevor Rhea, Trent Rhea, Chad Cleveland and Mike Steiert.
