Obituary

Annie Mae Hurst Guffey, 92, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Jess Hurst and Sara Elizabeth Belle Beasley Hurst. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Guffey who died in 1962; daughter, Annie Sue Freimuth who died in 2002; sisters and brothers, Margie Crane, Leroy Hurst, Everett Hurst, Arthur Hurst and Monroe Hurst; two grandsons; one great granddaughter and son-in law George Bates. She enjoyed flowers, making baskets, bottoming a chair; cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with friends. Annie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Tellico Baptist Church.

She is survived by six children, T.J. Guffey and wife Betty of Otto, Florence Robbins and husband Lawrence, Ruth Ann Backholt and husband B.B., Carolyn Beaver Gibson, Bonnie Harkins an Maebelle Bates; all of Franklin; twenty four grandchildren; forty five great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Tellico Baptist Church. Rev. Gary McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Benny Hampton, Eddie Robbins, Les Elliott, Mitchell Bates, Tim Teague and Josh Teague.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tellico Baptist Church Building Fund, 230 Tellico Road, Franklin, NC 28734.
